The Forum of Federations runs governance programs in Canada and Mexico and has done some work in the United States.

 

Canada                                                                                                  
Canada is a partner government of the Forum of Federations. The Forum's Canada program continues to expand with Forum involvement in several important conferences and study tours.

The Forum co-organized a workshop examining foreign relations of federal countries and an international conference on post-secondary education in federal countries.

In September 2007, experts examined the issues of federal-provincial, federal-state and international governance in the integration of the North American electricity sector.

Events in the Canada program have included:

Mexico                                                  
Mexico became a partner government in 2006. To date, the Forum's activities in Mexico have addressed inter-municipal cooperation, decentralization, intergovernmental cooperation and public security.

The Forum has co-organized workshops on decentralization and intergovernmental institutions, in partnership with the Mexican Interior Ministry's National Institute for Federalism and Municipal Development (INAFED).

The Forum and INAFED are also active in the area of public security. Forum experts have participated in roundtables and panels on the subject and future workshops are planned to promote exchanges between Brazilian, Spanish and Argentine practitioners and their Mexican counterparts. This workshop series will travel to several Mexican states throughout the republic.

United States

The Forum has developed close relationships with many American academics and some organizations, such as the Council of State Governments (CSG). In 2007, the Forum will explore opportunities with foundations in the United States that are interested in federalism.

The Forum	recently	held	a	conference	on	post-secondary education in Gatineau, Canada. The conference was opened with an address Jan. 15 by the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Canada.
