Young Professionals

The Forum of Federation's Young Professionals Program was created to engage young politicians, academics, journalists, and officials from around the world in a dialogue on federalism with the aim of learning from each other.

Activities in this program are designed to integrate future leaders into the Forum's international network and to provide a young professionals perspective on the practice of federalism.

Youth International Internship Program 2007-2008

The Forum's International Youth Internship Program provides young Canadian university graduates the opportunity to work abroad for six months within the Forum's international partner organizations.

Through this program, participants develop their organizational, research and networking skills while acquiring valuable work experience. In addition, the program helps reinforce the important ties between the Forum and each of its partner organizations. While working with the Forum's partners, interns are responsible for a variety of important tasks which typically include: monitoring the 'state of federalism' in their host countries; helping to identify how the host organization and the Forum could support various levels of government in improving federal governance; and assisting in the planning of events and/or projects sponsored by the host organization.

The Forum of Federations offers internships in India and South Africa in 2007-2008

The Forum of Federations is coordinating Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) internships for Canadian citizens and landed immigrants to go to India and South Africa through the Forum's partner organizations from September 2007 to March 2008.

Interns will work with their host institutions on governance-related projects and on forging new networks for dialogue on federalism. Internships are available to young Canadians interested in international affairs who hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in the field of International Relations, Law, International Development, Economics, Political Economy, Finance, Political Science or Public Administration.  Some positions will require a law degree, LLM may be a preference of the host organization but not mandatory.
The host organizations are:

  • South Africa: SADC Center for Land Related Regional and Development Policy
  • South Africa: Community Law Centre (CLC)
  • India - Institute of Social Sciences (ISS) - 2 interns
