Business leaders and economists eager to hear experiences of other federal countries

A brief introduction fiscal federalism was presented to business leaders, economists and industrialists by Forum President George Anderson in the capital of Nepal recently.

The event was a seminar organized by the National Business Initiative (NBI), an umbrella organization of Nepal’s business people and industrialists. A total of 30 business people and industrialists participated in the program. Mr. Anderson’s presentation was followed by comments from Dr. Shankar Sharma and Prof. Ali Salim.

In discussions between Mr. Anderson and local political leaders and civil society actors, Nepal’s political leaders have shown their deep interest in learning from other countries’ experiences. They are interested in understanding not only what is going well and why, but also the continuing challenges facing other federal countries of the world. A significant number of political leaders have shown their interest in learning from the challenges facing some federal countries in particular, such as Nigeria and Ethiopia.

The event took place on Sept. 16, 2008 in Kathmandu.
