Delegates in Zacatecas, Mexico learn from “complicated relationships” of others
Ideas from India enriched the understanding of the processes of managing intergovernmental relations for deputies from Mexico’s state governments in a recent workshop in Zacatecas, Mexico. The workshop was the National Forum on New Mechanisms for Federal-State Co-ordination, organized byNational Governor's Association of Mexico (CONAGO), in partnership with the state government of Zacatecas, with help from the Forum of Federations.This meeting was the first in a series of four on decentralization and intergovernmental relations. The Forum of Federations arranged for S. Lakshminarayanan, former Secretary of the Inter-state Council of India, to present the formal structure of intergovernmental relations in India as well as the emerging trends in managing these complicated relationships. According to delegates, S. Lakshminarayanan’s presentation provided insights and practical ideas that could be imported to the Mexican system. The event took place in the city of Zacatecas in the Mexican state of Zacatecas, July 11-12, 2008. The workshop was one in a series of workshops focusing on decentralization and intergovernmental relations organized by the Forum of Federations and CONAGO. |
